Andy Wilson was born and grew up in the Haida village of Skidegate. He is the son of Chief Skedans. He has worked very actively on the revitalization of Haida culture and art. He has worked as a cultural interpreter for his community and has participated in a program aiming to protect sites of cultural importance in the Haida Gwaii region.
Andy has participated in the repatriation of Haida ancestor remains, conserved in different museums around the world. He learned to make wooden boxes, bent according to a traditional technique that had been lost. These chests were used in the burial of human remains. Andy has spoken about his repatriation experiences at university conferences, museum and heritage institutions and Aboriginal communities in Canada and the United States.
